MY STORY
My mom and dad worked as drywall installers for 20 years while I was growing up. In the summer of 1984, when all the other children were out of school playing, I went to work with my parents at the age of 13. I started out doing simple tasks, such as mixing joint compound, a.k.a. (mud), and patching around pipes where the hole was too big, left from the hangers. I was learning knife control - how to hold the 6-inch knife properly and apply the right amount of pressure to spot nails. Over the next 5 years, I learned all aspects of drywall. I learned how to hang, finish, and texture drywall. I hated it! There was no fun for me over the summer, but I did enjoy the money I was making and the work of a job well done.
When I finished school in 1988, I applied for and received my drywall license, and my parents came to work for me. We only worked on new construction. We did not do small jobs like drywall repair work. I had a great team of professionals. 1996 was the best and worst year of my life. Construction in my area took a nose-dive, and I lost everything. My mom and dad retired that year, but it was the year my son was born and the year I got saved by putting my faith and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation. Being young, I had put all of my eggs in one basket, so to speak, which was not a smart move on my part. Live and learn.
For the next 10 years, I tried my hand with other business ventures and still did drywall on the side, but not as a mainstay of income. In 2000, I bought an RV dealership and a year later sold it to my competitor. He offered me a job as a sales manager with a nice salary. So, I agreed and worked for him for 4 years. In 2004, I became an ordained minister of the gospel as a youth pastor, later to become Senior Pastor of the church. I enjoy owning my own business, so I started DS Drywall Patch & Repair. Unlike the first drywall company I owned, we now focus on small jobs, and repairs of families living life, from a hole in the wall to an A/C pan leak or plumbing that damaged the drywall. Maybe you are adding an addition to your home. We do the jobs that other companies pass over for new construction bids.
At DS Drywall Patch & Repair, we pride ourselves on quality, not quantity. As the owner, I want the job done right the first time. I want to know that my customers are satisfied with the work, and we strive to make sure that they are. I have a great team of professionals who feel the same way. We are a rolling warehouse. We have everything on the truck to do any job in the drywall field. No power at the job site, no problem! We have a 9000-kW generator on board. No water, no problem! We have water on board. We have all the tools needed to see the job is done right!
